TUESDAY WITH GRANDMA AND GRANDPA:-)

Hi Friends!

Bill took the day off of work and I, as usual, had a difficult time waking up. I tried to get up at noon when he called my parents and told them to come over. But it didn't quite happen, and I went back to bed until they actually showed up an hour or so later. Nate and Isaac were playing with their friend, Matt, and couldn't wait to introduce him to their grandparents. Molly and Cam and Bill and I hung out with Grandma and Grandpa for a while. Then we decided to go for a drive.

We drove my parents out to some land that we're about to own. Yes, you heard it here. We're in escrow on 40 acres of beautiful Malibu mountain wilderness. We are supposed to close on it on April 9th. Hopefully, that will happen -- but the seller has been very flaky and keeps changing the terms and conditions. So, we're proceeding with caution and hoping for the best. It was a challenging hike for my parents and me (with my health issues) as the land is very rugged. But they got to see it.

After viewing the land, we had dinner at Neptune's Net, which is right down the road. And then we walked across the PCH to see the beach. On the way home, we showed my parents some more of the Oxnard sights, including Cameron's school -- Channel Islands High School. We got back home around 7:30 and my parents headed back to their hotel. Bill has fallen asleep on our bed, and the kids are playing Wii and/or watching TV. I just finished checking my e-mail and FaceBook and doing my daily Bible reading. I have a few more things to do around the house and then I'm going to go to bed. Good News -- I finally finished all the Las Vegas laundry. I feel like I should win the Mom of the Year award:-) Tomorrow the 2 new mattresses for Nate and Isaac and the new headboard for Molly are being delivered. Not sure what else we have planned for tomorrow... so stay tuned to find out!

Much Love,
Michele

SUNDAY AND MONDAY AT HOME :-)

Hi Friends!

I had great visions of waking up in time on Sunday to go to church, but I slept through my alarm and woke up at noon. Las Vegas was fun, but it really tired me out. I'm having some issues walking due to hip, knee, and ankle pain. And my meds are making me very sick to my stomach and tired since I stopped the steroids (which used to counteract those side effects with mania and hunger)!

So, we had a lot to do on Sunday -- or should I say Bill had a lot to do on Sunday -- because, as we all know -- he is SuperMan. He went grocery shopping and went to buy new beds and mattresses for 3 of the kids. Nate and Isaac needed mattresses and Molly needed a new headboard. She also needs a dresser -- but we ran out of time for that. I mostly spent yesterday and today on laundry. 6 people x 8 days with no washer or dryer = TOO MUCH laundry! I'd say I have about 5 loads left and I'm hoping to finish tonight or tomorrow morning!!!

Last night we invited my parents over for dinner. They are visiting from Wisconsin this week and staying at a hotel in Camarillo. Bill made a very nice dinner for everyone. Unfortunately, I really was not feeling well -- so I spent most of the evening in bed. My Mom brought me a beautiful prayer shawl made by people at her church. I will wear it when I'm feeling really sick or doing chemo, etc -- and it will remind me of all the people all over the U.S. who are praying for me.

Today Bill had to go to work. But the kids are still on Spring Break. We all slept in. I got up around noon, did some more laundry and household chores -- and then the kids and I went over to Mom and Dad's hotel. They have a pool there. So the kids went swimming and Mom and I put our feet in the hot tub and watched them. After a few hours, Bill met up with us and we all had dinner at McDonald's. Then we all went our own ways -- Mom and Dad went back to the hotel, I took the kids home, and Bill went to our quarterly home school meeting at 1st Baptist in Thousand Oaks and then to pick up Bingo at the Malone's in Simi Valley. (We ran out of time to pick up Bingo yesterday -- luckily, the Malone's are very understanding friends:-) Tomorrow Mom and Dad are going to come over in the afternoon, and we'll show them around the neighborhood and city of Oxnard.

More tomorrow...

ARRIVED HOME FROM LAS VEGAS....

Hi Friends,

Just a quick note to let you know that we arrived safely home from Las Vegas this evening. We made good time -- left Las Vegas shortly after noon and only stopped three times -- once for gas, once for lunch at Big Boy's and once for a bathroom break!!

Once home -- We unpacked and I started some laundry. The kids are glad to be home and are having fun playing some card games together. I am wiped out, though, and heading off to bed.

My parents are close by staying at a hotel in Camarillo. So, hoefully we'll meet up with then soon!

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND... I posted all the Vegas pictures on FaceBook if you're interested. I'll blog more tomorrow...

Much Love,
Michele

HELP...I DON'T DO MORNINGS, BUT TODAY I HAVE TO:-(

Hi Friends!

Just a quick note to say we're up and getting ready to leave Las Vegas for Oxnard this morning. We packed almost everything up last night, so we're in pretty good shape. Check out is at 11 a.m. So, that gives us an hour to eat breakfast in the room, get us all up and ready, and pack up the truck. We'll be back to Oxnard late this evening--we hope. I'm going to do my Bible readings now to start the day off on the right note before waking up the kids. Bill is up and in the shower.

Much Love,
Michele

THURSDAY AND FRIDAY IN VEGAS!!!

Hi Friends,

Thank God! I was feeling better on Thursday. As usual on vacation, the kids and I slept in until around noon. Then we spent the afternoon at the pool and hot tub. In the evening, we had tickets for Kaa -- the Cirque du Soleil show that's here in the MGM Grand. We all loved it -- it was amazing with the choreography and special effects. Nate, especially, was just amazed by the martial arts scenes.

Today, Bill was finally done with his conference, so he got to sleep in with us. We had a leisurely sleeping-in morning, and then spent the afternoon at the pool, mostly in the Lazy River and the hot tub. We came back to the room at about 6 p.m. and Bill took the 3 younger kids down to the arcade where they played and had fun for an hour or so. Then they stopped at McDonald's for dinner for the kids. And Bill and I went out on a date tonight -- our last night here. We had dinner at one of the restaurants, went to the gift shop where Bill bought me a beautiful ring that I had my eye on for a while, and then stopped at the casino. I tried my hand at my butterfly slot machine, but I didn't have as much luck as last time.

Right now we're back in the room, and we're beginning to pack up. Check out is at 11 a.m. tomorrow and we hope to be all packed tonight. That way we can sleep in as late as possible. So, we'll probably get back to Oxnard late tomorrow night.

It's been a fun vacation, but it's gone way TOO fast. Bill tried to convince me that it will be good to be home -- but so far, I'm not buying it. I like vacations:-)

More tomorrow...or Sunday...
Much Love,
Michele

TERRIFIC TUEDAY/WHINEY WEDNESDAY....

Hi Friends,

Well, let's start with yesterday which was a fantastic day of vacationing in Las Vegas! We slept in until about noon. Then the kids and I spent the afternoon at the pool and hot tub outside. Bill had to work most of the day. He came back to the hotel room around 3:30. He and the kids walked down to the McDonald's in the food court here and got them dinner. They have a deal where you can get 50 chicken nuggets for $10. So, add a 4 sodas and 4 fries and we had a fairly inexpensive dinner for the kids.

Bill and I went to a social for the MPUC convention at 5:00. It was a nice affair, and there was good food and good drinks! We went around to all the booths and there were lots of freebies to pick up for the kids -- toy airplanes, posters, water bottles, etc.

After spending a few hours there socializing -- we stopped back up in the room to check on the kids. Then we went and had a few drinks did a LITTLE gambling. I found my lucky butterfly slot machine and made a profit of $44. I put in $20 and when I got up to $64, I cashed out. Bill played $20 on video poker but he lost rather than won! Oh well, we had fun -- and we still came out ahead.

We stopped at Haagen Daaz for ice cream cones for the kids on our way back up to the room. The kids were thrilled. It was about 11 p.m., so we gave them their ice creams, and then they went to bed.

All in all -- yesterday was a fantastic day. Today, unfortunately was not! Bill left for work early. I woke up at about 10 a.m. with a severe headache, unable to walk, and was vomiting. Not fun! The kids were good and took care of me until Bill got done with work. I think I just have been doing too much here in Vegas, and my body was telling me today that it needed me to stop. So, I had no choice but to spend the day in bed.

When Bill got done with work today, he and the kids went to the grocery store (we like to have breakfast and lunch in the room and eat out for dinner) and to McDonald's for lunch. Then this evening, he, Molly, Nate, and Isaac went to see the Human Body Exhibit and to the New York New York Roller Coaster. That was our original plan for today, except that I was going to come along. So I was kind of disappointed to miss out. Cameron didn't want to go, and he had planned to stay behind. So, he and I are hanging out at the hotel together tonight. It's nice and quiet. My headache is not as bad -- it's tolerable. And I have stopped vomiting, so that's good -- I even managed to keep down my medicine, some liquids, and a granola bar. My body is still very sore -- so I'll probably be confined to my wheelchair for the rest of the trip. Oh well, that's why we brought it!

Tomorrow we have tickets to the Cirque du Soleil (sp?) show, Ka. I'm really looking forward to it -- so please pray for my health!! And on Friday, we are going to spend the day at the hotel doing the Lazy River, which is only open on the weekends during this time of the year. We are also hoping to do the CSI Experience, which is here in the MGM Grande where we are staying. And, of course -- the kids are all looking forward to buying souveneirs.

Bill and the 3 younger kids must be having a good time as they are still not back. I am going to go now and give Cam the netbook as he has been waiting patiently for it.

More tomorrow...
Much Love,
Michele

VEGAS VACATION :-)

Hi Friends!

We got up and left Oxnard by late Sunday morning. The kids were very excited and Bill and I were ready for a vacation, too. We had a nice drive to Las Vegas and arrived on Sunday evening. I slept most of the way while we drove -- thanks to all my pain medications. We made a couple stops along the way. One for gas and snacks at lunchtimes, and then in the evening we stopped at a Greek restaurant for dinner.

By the time we checked into the MGM Grande last night, it was fairly late. We brought in all our stuff, unpacked everything, and the kids all tooks baths/showers and went to bed. Today Bill had to get up early for the convention, but the rest of us slept in. Bill brought us some breakfast foods in the morning, and later at noon we met him for lunch at the Food Court in the hotel. We split up with some of us eating at McDonald's and the others eating at a Pizza place.

After lunch, Bill went back to work. The kids and I went to check out the pool, and then we decided to spend the afternooon swimming. There are 3 pools here. The weather is very warm and the pool water feels as warm as bath water. There is a hot tub, too -- but it was too hot to spend much time in. They also have a lazy river here, but it is only open Fri-Sun. So, we're looking forward to trying it out then.

We made it back to our room by oabout 4 p.m. and got changed and cleaned up the room. When Bill came back from work at around 6 p.m., we went to eat dinner at the Buffet here in the MGM Grande. We've never stayed here before -- in the past we have stayed in the Flamingo and the Golden Nugget. Right now we are deciding what shows we'll be seeing during our stay. We are definitely going to see "Human Bodies" -- which should be really interesting. We also may see Ka as it's offered right here at our hotel. Anyway, we need to decide what we want to see, when we want to see it, and make reservations. So, I'm going to sign off and talk to Bill about that now! And then I'm off to bed as my meds are making me very tired:-(

More tomorrow...
Much Love,
Michele

VEGAS, BABY:-)

Hi Friends,

I haven't blogged for while. During the week, I was feeling really sick and then yesterday just got really busy as Bill was part of a big swap meet (garage sale) in our housing subdivision! He got rid of a bunch of clutter. Nate bought a pair of roller blades with some of his money, and Isaac bought a scooter. I got some good deals on clothes for me and the kids, too! Other than that yesterday was filled with more errands -- taking Bingo to Jeff and Judi's, buying supplies for the cats, getting my hair cut, picking up prescriptions and doing meds. Then we spent the rest of the day working around the house and packing. I also got my PICC line removed yesterday -- so, YAY:-)

W e are hoping to leave for Las Vegas this morning, and we will be there for one week. I am SO looking forward to a vacation. I'm taking the netbook -- so I'll be able to blog and do facebook while I'm there:-) Please pray that all goes well and that my health doesn't interfere too much with our fun!!!

Much Love,
Michele

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!!!

Hi Friends!

After blogging earlier today and letting you know I'm still alive and kicking -- we did our homeschooling and household chores. I picked up Cameron an hour earlier than usual from school at 2:15 rather than 3:15. Instead of late day in the morning today, they got out an hour earlier than usual due to Sophmore testing. I met him at Spudnuts, and we had a couple donuts together on the way home!

When I got back home with Cameron, we tied up a few loose ends on our homeschooling day. Then since I'm finally starting to feel semi-human again, I offered a trip to the park. Only Nate wanted to go -- so the two of us were off. Him on his skateboard...Me walking...We went to the fountain path and got some exercise there.

We stayed from 3-4 p.m. and it was nice to get outside again. However, it was very hot today -- 84 degrees in Oxnard at this time of the year is quite unusual! At least we get a nice ocean breeze, though! That's important as there is no air conditioning in our townhouse! I don't think we'll be here too long, though as our intentions are to buy soon!

At 4 p.m. Bill came home and took over on kid detail, so that I could go to the pharmacy and then Dr. Cohen's office in Thousand Oaks. My first stop was the pharmacy in T.O. where I get all my pain meds filled. You have to use the same pharmacy when working with a pain management doctor. So, Dr. Lin (pain management) wants me to start on Nucynta as a possible replacement for Dilaudid. But they had to order the drug. Today I stopped by to pick it up, and we'll see if it works for me.

Then off to Dr. Cohen's where we reminisced over the past 2 years of my lupus roller-coaster ride. He just got back from a Lupus Conference in New York and had talked with many people about my case. After examining me -- he and I are both pretty sure the CellCept is not helping, I'm up to the maximum dose of it at 3000mg a day. I will keep going like that for another month or so. At that point, we will probably go back to Rituxan or another chemo treatment if the lupus smptoms have still not subsided. So, he only needs blood from me one more time- next week. Then we are going to remove my PICC line. When they need access for chemo, they will put in a port, which should be easier to live with! I got the "OK but be careful!" in regards to my trip to Vegas.

I got home just as Bill was coming home from taking Nate, Molly, and Isaac to church activities at Gold Coast Christian Church. Bill and I talked for a bit, and then I helped Cameron with a history timeline (on posterboard) that he was doing for homework.

Soon enough, Bill went back to pick up the kids and they all had fun. Isaac was very enthusiastic about his first Wednesday night in "Discovery Zone." It's nice to see him making friends and interacting with kids of his own age.

I finished my audio book, Little Bee, by Chris Clave tonight. It was a really good book and I enjoyed it a lot. My only problem with audio books is that they tend to put me to sleep, and then I have a hard time figuring out where I left off the last time, because when you fall asleep the CDs just keep going and going. But the other two books I have checked out from the library are in book form -- so I won't put myself to sleep as much with those.

More tomorrow...Bill is taking the day off to go riding with his friends. He deserves some time to himself, so that he can maintain his sanity...now let's just hope I stay sane without him here tomorrow!

Much Love,
Michele

STILL RECOVERING....

Hi Friends...

Sorry I haven't blogged this week. I have been feeling really awful. Horrible headache and severe fatigue. I think it was a combination of too much zoo on Saturday and the lowering of my steroids/increasing of my CellCept. This morning is the first morning I felt anywhere near normal. I have an appointment with Dr. Cohen this evening at 5:15 -- so we'll see what he has to say.

Basically, I am just trying to recover in time to go to Vegas on Sunday. Bill was supposed to go on travel this week, but he cancelled due to my condition. He's been taking Cam to and from school and working from home in the afternoons. I tend to sleep through the morning, homeschool in the afternoons, and then go back to bed.

So -- I need to go now and get started on that. I just wanted you all to know I was still alive and kicking...

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!
Much Love,
Michele

RECOVERING FROM THE ZOO...

Hi Friends...

We definitely had a lot of fun at the zoo on Saturday, but I've been paying for it since then -- very sore and headachy, too much sun, activity, and stress -- I suppose. It's depressing that taking my family to the zoo makes me feel this sick.

On Sunday we went to church and then came home and I rested up. I've been listening to my audiobooks and alternating sleeping with that. Bill grilled out for dinner last night and the kids were in meat heaven with brats, cheeseburgers, and steaks. We also had potatoes and salad for me.

This week Bill was supposed to go to China Lake on Tues-Thurs. for a business trip. But after a look at me last night -- he decided to cancel the trip and reschedule it for later. I just wasn't up to being left home alone with the kids. Mostly the driving is what's difficult for me!!!

So, this morning, he left for work and took Cam to school. The homeschoolers knew I was sick and let me sleep in. We ended up homeschooling in my bed from about 1 - 6 p.m. And then I went back to bed. I got up at about 10 p.m. to make sure all kids were in bed, had something to eat, and checked my e-mail and FaceBook.

Bill is already in bed, and I am going to go join him. My plan for this week is to just try and homeschool and rest up. We're leaving for Vegas on Sunday and will be staying there for a week while Bill does his conference. Then when we return to California, my parents are coming to visit for a week. So, March is shaping up to be a busy month!

He're hoping my headache and yucky lupus-symptoms get better soon! I have an appointment with Dr. Cohen on Wednesday evening, and my home nurse is coming on Friday to work on my
PICC line. I hope it's OK as it's looking infected and feeling itchy. We'll see what Nurse
Alice has to say!

Good Night and Much Love,
Michele

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY!!!

Hi Friends!

Bill came home after midnight in the wee hours of Friday, and then went to work as usual on Friday. They're definitely keeping him busy at work -- but it's good to have a job where you are needed and good at what you do:-)

Friday -- Annie stayed with us until the afternoon. The cleaners came in the morning and the day just seemed to pass quickly. I took a nap in the afternoon when we finished homeschooling, went for a walk, and then in the evening tried to go to bed early to prep for our zoo trip today. I ended up trying to listen to one of my books on CD from the library and woke up way far into it. So, I guess I'll need to try that again a different day when I can stay awake.

Today, I discovered what happens when you mix Ambien, steroids, and girl scout cookies. I got up this morning to discover a half-eaten girl scout cookie under my pillow and my PICC line was all bloody. So, who knows what I was up to last night?!!

We had planned to leave for the Santa Barbara Zoo today at 9 a.m., but in typical Bland fashion we left at 11:15. That turned out to be fine. We stopped at Arby's for lunch and then had a lovely drive down tho PCH to Santa Barbara. The ocean view was beautiful.

We truly enjoyed our day at the zoo...and I don't think we harmed any animals! I am planning to post the pictures on FB later tonight. But the dinner bell just rang and Bill is calling me down for dinner of enchiladas...so I must go!

More tomorrow!
Much Love,
Michele

WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY...

Hi Friends:

After I blogged yesterday morning, the homeschooling and general craziness of the day took over. I am blessed with Annie being here, and she volunteered to take Cameron to school in the morning and to pick him up in the afternoon. That way I could take my pain meds as needed and not have worry about balancing my pain with my ability to drive! Also, on the way home from school yesterday, she stopped and picked up milk and ketchup -- we were dangerously low!!! So, thank you Alice! As always -- I wonder, What would I do without you?

We are having an animal theme week in homeschool in preparation for our trip to the zoo this Saturday! So far this week, we have learned about penguins, leatherback turtles, and pandas. Right now we are watching a really cool DVD with Jane Goodall about "Talking with the Animals!" It is utterly amazing. Right now, they are learning about the rescue dogs used in the search/rescue. Tomorrow we will be learning about giraffes.

So yesterday -- we did our usual homeschooling and chores, and we went to the park for some outside time for walking, skateboarding, climbing trees, and playing with friends. Amber (Molly's friend) came over in the afternoon and stayed for dinner. Annie and I made a lasagna, chicken wings, and cheesy biscuits with ice cream sandwiches for dessert.

At 6:30 last night, Molly, Amber, and Nate went to our church (Gold Coast Christian Church) for Wednesday's youth group. They are doing March Madness -- which is an Olympics' style theme. They earn tickets for things like memorizing verses, bringing their Bibles, wearing their team colors (their team is Brazil and their team color is yellow!). They also do fun types of Olympic-type games which are tied into Biblical principles. Molly and Amber had been practicing all week for a couples' skate and they came in second place. So, that was a big achievement for them.

They had youth group from 6:30-8:30, and the church is only about 5 minutes away from our house -- so that is very convenient! After returning home, Annie and I watched her Terry Hershey DVD, "The Seven Habits of Happy People," while Cameron entertained Isaac with Dragon Ball Z episodes on the netbook. We finished most of the DVD and then did the rest of it after picking up the kids.

By the time I got all the kids to bed last night and made some preparations for today -- helping Cam pack his lunch and get ready for picture day today. We also went over his English work -- he's still reading "The Great Gatsby." I have read it and also have the Cliff's notes for it , so we are going over the main points, characters, and themes each day. We also had to prep Itty Bitty last night as she is being spayed today.

So, I was utterly exhausted by midnight last night when I finally made it to bed. And so no blogging or facebook or e-mails got done last night. Oh well!

This morning came quickly when our alarms went off at 6:30. Annie took Cameron to school this morning. And he was irritable because it was picture day, and his mean, unreasonable I forced him to comb his hair, and look decent. Not that he agreed to wear anything besides a T-shirt -- Oh well!

Isaac insisted on setting his alarm and going with me to the vet to take in Itty Bitty this morning, because "she is my cat!" We had to drop her off between 6-7:30 a.m., and we will pick her up between 3-4:30. Isaac already has his cell phone alarm set to 2:45, so that we can pick up Itty Bitty as soon as possible!

Of course, I dropped the cat off as late as possible, and we got to the vets' at about 7:20. We arrived back at home, and Molly and Nate were still asleep. So, Isaac, Annie, and I went back to be until about 10 a.m. At that point, we got up and had some Sausage McMuffins that Annie kindly brought us from McDonald's. We then did music and science, and we are about to move on to lunch and the rest of our schoolwork before going to pick up Itty Bitty. Molly is not feeling well today. We think she got a bit of the flu from her recent flu shot. She has a headache and a stomach ache. She tried to do school with some meds for her stomach and her head -- but she still wasn't feeling good. So, I had her change back into her PJs and she is lying down in my bed resting and drinking lots of fluids -- with a wastebasket nearby to puke in if necessary! Hopefully, this won't hit anyone else in our family!

So, Isaac and I will finish up our homeschooling, chores, and maybe even make it to the park today. We also need to take care of sickly Molly and our poor little, Itty Bitty Kitty after her surgery. Annie is going to pick up Cameron from school and take him to In 'n Out Burger. I like that she is an additional adult-type-friend for my kids to talk to!

Bill is due home around midnight tonight from Whidbey Island tonight. I have missed him tremendously and can't wait for him to go home. He truly is my BFF:-)

I don't think I'll get back to blogging anymore today...so until tomorrow:-)

Much Love,
Michele

COMFORTING WORDS DIRECT FROM OUR GOD...

Hi Friends,

Annie just took Cam to school. Wednesday is his late day. The homeschoolers are still sleeping and I am doing my Bible reading, blogging, facebook, e-mails, etc. on Isaac's netbook in my bed. I'll write more tonight -- but for now I wanted to share these words with you. They bring me great comfort.

John 14: 1-4: "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you may also be where I am. YOU KNOW THE WAY TO THE PLACE WHERE I AM GOING."

More later...
Much Love,
Michele

TUESDAY...TUESDAY...TUESDAY...

Hi Friends,

I have successfully survived my first full day without Bill. He left for his business trip to Washington yesterday afternoon. Last night I fell asleep in Isaac's bed with him, and I woke up squeezed into Isaac's twin size bed with him -- almost falling out, and not very comfortable! It was after midnight, so I moved downstairs to my own bed. And I slept until 6:45 when I awoke with a horrible headache, and sadly realized that without Bill here -- it was up to me to deliver Cam to school. We set off for his school at 7:15 -- both of us complaining! I delivered him safely -- but my head was killing me and I was so sleepy. So, I came home and went back to bed, since all of the homeschoolers were still asleep.

At 10 a.m. we got up and started to be functioning human-beings. We ate, did our personal hygeine and chores, and homeschooled ... we were done by 2:30 p.m. just in time for me to get ready for my doctor's appointment with Dr. Lin in Thousand Oaks. I left for that by 3:15 as my appointment was at 3:45. Annie nicely volunteered to come and pick up Cam from school today, and then hang out with the kids while I went to the appointment. What would I do without Alice who came, as always, with Big Gulps in hand?

My appointment with Dr. Lin went well. More prescriptions for Fentanyl and Dilaudid. I also will be trying out a new drug called Nucynta -- which could hopefully replace the Dilaudid at some point. It's less strong, less addictive, and easier to wean off of. So, hopefully -- I'll have some luck with it kicking my headache. If not, Dr. Lin wants to do some injections into my head for pain control next month. Sounds fun, doesn't it? Apparently the pain is centered on my occipital nerve, which is not handling the CNS Lupus well. So, some injections there may make a world of difference. And while injections to your head don't sound all that fun -- if it gets rid of the pain, I'm in. Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for word from Dr. Cohen on my bloodwork and whether or not I can go up on the CellCept. Going down on the Prednisone is still not going well -- I'm stuck at 20 mg. If I go lower, the pleurisy and major headaches come back! And my PICC line is growing infected -- which is not a good thing. So, prayers for that would be appreciated. Anyway, I guess I'm still a big mess -- but really things are going as well as could be expected in my "loopy world." That's where I practice my "new normal!"

So, after the doctor's appointment, I stopped at the pharmacy to pick up all my meds from Dr. Lin. Then I drove home and met up with Annie and the kids. Molly was at Amber's house, Cam was watching TV, and the two boys were running amuck -- much energy and nowhere to put it:-o So, even though it was very cold and windy -- I took them over to the fountain park and walked while they played themselves silly:-) That helped a lot.

This evening Annie treated us to dinner at McDonald's. Thank you, Annie, it was a nice time, and that way we didn't have to cook either! And yes, we made it through a whole dinner without Isaac throwing up!! Hurray!!!

After returning home from dinner, there was a little bit of free time for the kids before baths/showers/ and bedtime. Right now, they're all off in bed, and it's very quiet -- heavenly quiet. In fact, the only things I hear are me and Annie typing on our computers, and the sound of my pounding head (--that part's not so nice!). I guess, that injection to my head is starting to sound better by the second:-)

God Bless Annie (or Alice) who has agreed to stay for a few days to help us out. Tomorrow is late day for Cameron, and she is going to drive him to school. That will be safer for all of us as well as all the Oxnard drivers on the road:-) And I'm glad to just have additional adult support, as well as someone here who can take care of me if the need arises!

Alright -- enough for now. I'll blog again tomorrow...

SUNDAY WAS SLOW, AND MONDAY WAS MANIC!!!

Hi Friends,

Sunday we went to church in the morning, and then came home for lunch. I did some reading and took a nap after helping Cameron with some sociology homework. The Fields' came over at around 4:30, and it was nice to visit with them. We hadn't seen them for quite a while -- since we'd last been to Simi Valley. We visited at our house, and then we all went to TGI Friday's for dinner at 6 p.m. It was a nice time for both the kids (they have a 16 year old boy and 12 year old girl who fit in well with our kids) and the adults. The meal was great, and I had a maragarita, a BLT with fries, and Carrie and I split a hot fudge sundae. Isaac once again downed his entire cheeseburger and fries WAY TOO QUICKLY and threw up in the bathroom. By dessert time, he was hungry again, and he ate a sundae! Gotta love 7 year olds.

Today, after Bill and Cameron went to work and school -- I went back to bed until 10 a.m. I had a hard time sleeping last night. When the kids got up, we drove to Fillmore to pick up a ton of clothes that a nice lady from Freecyle was giving us. We watched a DVD on pandas for science class on the way there, and stopped at a neat little playground we spotted for PE on the way back. We also hit a Del-Taco drive-through for lunch. Then when we got home, we did all the household chores and sorted through the clothes. We got quite a bit -- stuff for Nate, Isaac, Molly, me, and even a few things for Cameron.

We continued to homeschool until 4 p.m. due to our late start. Bill picked up Cameron and brought him home from school. Then Bill packed up and left for LAX as he has a business trip this week to Whidbey Island, WA. After he left, I did some stuff around the house -- cleaning up, laundry, etc. Then I took the boys over to the fountain park while I did my daily walk! Hurray for me! Molly had Amber over. And Cameron planted himself in his usual after-school spot, which is in front of the TV. He even convinced Molly and Amber to do his sociology homework -- which was to print out a picture of a "beautiful/hot girl" and a picture of an "average girl." Cameron claimed he couldn't do it, because he is not interested in girls yet. THANK GOD for that! Anyway, the girls were happy to do it for him, and I actually think Amber has a bit of a crush on him.

Tonight we had pizza for dinner and the day just seems to have disappeared. I need to get Nate and Isaac to take baths, and then start bedtime. And I'm not thrilled to be driving Cameron to school every morning this week. YUCK! Bill, I'm missing you already!! Annie is going to come and help me out, though. I especially need her tomorrow as I have to pick up Cam at 3:15 in Oxnard and be in T.O. by 3:45 to make my appointment with the pain management doctor. I still haven't figured out how to be in two places at one time yet! Let me know if anyone has figured that out yet!

I'm going to sign off and write more tomorrow. For now, Good Night:-)

NOT-SO SUNNY SATURDAY:-)

Hi Friends,

Friday after blogging, Bill came back with the kids and we homeschooled until about 5 p.m., since we had gotten a late start. Cameron also got his two flu shots after school -- so our family is now completely covered, and hopefully I won't catch the flu since I probably couldn't fight it off. I was able to get a flu shot while in the hospital -- but not the live one, and I couldn't get the H1N1 or it would have shocked my non-existant immune system. But then of course, I've had the pneumonia shot, and I still got pneumonia 3 times in the last 2 years. So nothing is for sure! And it is what it is! (I know -- I'm feeling deep today!)

Last night Bill made home-made pizza for dinner and it was very tasty. We also had a healthy salad, and Bill even made me a margarita
:-) It was a lovely dinner, and I went to bed shortly after it. I had been trying to take a nap all day, and had never made it to bed -- so I decided to just go to bed early. That worked out well. And I slept in until 9 a.m., with only a few wake-ups in the night for pain meds.

This morning, Nate, Isaac, and I were the first ones up. So, I coached the boys and they made french toast and scrambled eggs with cheese. By the time we finished making it, it was more like brunch, but we had fun, learned something, and Cameron and Molly were amazed that their little brothers made breakfast. The rest of the morning was spent doing chores and around the house.

This afternoon, Bill took Molly and Nate to the park by the fountain (with a big grassy area) to play baseball. Isaac and Cameron elected to stay home and watch TV. I went to the park, too, and walked. So, hurray for me! My goal was to walk 6 days a week for exercise, and I actually did it this week!

After that, Molly and I went to the Oxnard Library. That is our usual Saturday outing to get reading materials and educational supplies for the homeschoolers! The Oxnard Library is really great -- by far the best public library I've seen in our area. I checked out 4 books: the first one has the funniest title : "Be Happy or I'll Scream, My Deranged Quest for the Perfect Husband, Family, and Life," by Sheri Lynch. Gotta love the title, right?! I also got "Little Bee," by Chris Cleave (on audibook for my bad days!), "Last Words," by George Carlin, and "The Girl in the Green Sweater," by Krystyna Chiger. I'll let you know how my books are, because I know a lot of you are readers, too! And, of course -- we got a bunch of stuff for the kids. Right now, Nate is into Eragon, Molly's is into Judy Blume, and Isaac is doing Easy Readers, which are very cute! We also checked out animal DVDs as we'll be doing an animal unit for science this week to fit into our trip to the zoo next Saturday -- a belated family activity for Cam's birthday! And Cam has been checking out Charlie Brown comic books. I also got him the Cliff's Notes for "Great Gatsby," which he's reading in his English class.

So, we spent probably two hours at the library. As we got home -- it was really starting to rain. Bill left to recycle and grocery shop. And I'm checking FaceBook, doing my blog, and my daily Bible readings now. After all that -- I'll either nap or read or listen to one of my library books.
Molly has 2 friends over right now -- she's such a little social butterfly! And the boys are all doing their own things.

I can hear Bill, so I'm going to go check on him. I'll write more tomorrow. We'll go to church in the morning, and in the afternoon we have some friends from Simi Valley (The Fields') coming over to visit. They'll hang out at our house for a while, and then we're planning to do dinner at TGI Fridays.

Much Love,
Michele

THURSDAY AND FRIDAY!!!

Hi Friends,

I just realized that I didn't blog yesterday, so I will check in quickly with you before heading over to the park. Molly, Nate, and Isaac are there playing baseball. I am going to watch them play and do my daily walk at the same time. The cleaners just left, and Bill just came back with the kids. He took the 3 homeschoolers to get their flu shots -- important more for me than them. Because if I catch the flu, I have no immune system to fight it off. Anyway, he did that while the cleaners were here. The kids did well, although Molly really doesn't like shots! And they went for ice cream at Dairy Queen for a reward afterwards. Bill will take Cameron for the shots after school today. While they were gone, my home nurse also came and I did some household stuff -- laundry, e-mail, FaceBook, petcare, etc.

Yesterday I was not feeling well. Going down on the steroids hasn't gone as well as we hoped it would. I made it all the way from 60 mg a day to 20 mg. but --When I went down from 20 mg. to 15 mg -- I had the severe headache and chest pain back. So, I talked to Dr. Cohen today and we will still taper down on the steroids, but do it slower. So, I'm back up to 20 mg. for 5 more days, then down to 17.5 mg, etc.

So, really yesterday, I just tried to survive the lupus pain and still be a wife and homeschooling Mom. We got a reasonable amount of work done and even picked up some more clothes from Freecycle. We hit a new 7-11. Hurray for 44 oz of soda to help my energy and headaches:-) And wouldn't you know, Cameron came home with a huge geography project that he needed help with -- it was 16 pages long. We did it, though!

But other than that -- yesterday is a blur due to pain and the subsequent pain meds. Hoping today is better:-) I will write more tomorrow....
Off to the park and the baseball game!

BUSY DAY:-)

Hi Friends,

Today was double donut day for Cameron. Every Wednesday, Bill takes him to school for late day and drops him off at Spudnuts where he buys donuts/chocolate milk for breakfast. And then he walks over to school. That helps them both because Bill always seems to have a early morning meeting on Wednesday when Cameron has time to burn. And then tonight Bill was picking him up afterschool, since I had 2:00 dental appointments for Nate and Molly in Simi valley. And he told Cam to meet him at Spudnuts again and have a donut while he waited!

As for the rest of us, we got up this morning and did our household chores and Bible reading. We had breakfast and did some homeschooling. And then we went over to the fountain path where Nate and Isaac skateboarded and Molly and I walked the trail. By the time we finished that -- it was time to head home, eat lunch, and get ready to drive to Simi Valley.

We left at around 1:30 and stopped in Moorpark on the way to pick up some Freecycle clothes for Isaac. Then we continued on to Judi's house where we talked to her for a few minutes (hadn't seen her in almost 7 months), and dropped off Isaac to play with Will and the other kids. Just Nate and Molly had appointments today to get the last of their cavities filled. That took about 2 hours, and thank goodness -- Annie showed up to hang out with me and deliver me a Double Big Gulp.

We got back to Judi's house around 4 and stayed to chat until 4:30. But then we really needed to leave for home as Nate and Molly have their Church Youth Group on Wednesday nights. We stopped at 7-11 for dinner. YUM YUM! I filled up my Big Gulp again, and the kids got slurpees, hotdogs, chips, taquitos, etc. Very healthy, I know -- but it got the dinner job done.

It was raining and there was lots of traffic. We got home at around 6 p.m. I'm loving the GPS on my new phone, though. It warns you of excessive traffic and gives you the chance to detour it. For example, today I exited the 101 and took Rice to the 118 -- much less traffic!

The church kids had to change into yellow clothes, because they're on the yellow team. Why couldn't we be blue or green, something easier? And Isaac tried on all of his new clothes. He was very pleased with himself and having a grand time. And then Grandma Lu called and really made his day. He loves his new phone, but he doesn't feel he gets enough phone calls. I told him we just need to get his phone number out there to the rest of his friends and family!

Bill just brought the kids home, and I am going to get off the computer and get started on bedtime. Who should I put to bed first -- me or the kids? Me is sounding pretty good right now!!!

More tomorrow...
Much Love,
Michele
